Have the Generals been fooled, or worse, are they colluding by staying in Afghanistan?

In his speech last night President Trump said that the oval office made him doubt his instincts to get out of Afghanistan, but people voted for Trump hoping that the office would not change his populist/nationalist instincts.

Trump has declared that American troops are to be kept in Afghanistan mainly to "keep the terrorists from coming over here," or to keep an eye on Pakistan's bomb. It's more likely that American troops are being kept in Afghanistan mainly to keep Iran in check so they won't threaten Israel. 

Have the Generals been fooled, or worse, are they colluding by staying in Afghanistan? In any case, America is not being served.
