Perfection is possible but...

The collective wisdom of the ages says that humans are not perfectible and attempts to do so usually end up using coercion, which in any case does not succeed. This practical wisdom is mainly why the conservatives affirm the customs, folkways and thoughts of those who have gone before us.

But if enough time is allowed, and if conservative and evolutionary rather than revolutionary and radical paths are taken, humans can be perfectible. As Christian and Buddhist mystics hope for the perfection of sainthood, knowing such perfection is slow and difficult (accept for Zen which can be fast and difficult), so also the goal of evolving to Godhood or perfection in the cosmos can be affirmed. And Godhood itself is part of very ancient conservative beliefs, customs, folkways and thoughts.

We don't throw out capitalism in the West, we move to progressive capitalism, we don't throw out Christianity we move to evolutionary Christianity. The new is synthesized in the old with Ordered Evolution and Revitalized Conservatism. We gradually evolve toward the perfection of Godhood. Real conservatism knows that gradual change rather than fixed inflexibility is what actually conserves the old from destruction.
