The sacralization of evolution, not wealth, may come in the future
I have no doubt that the profit motive and free enterprise have led to many great things in the
world, but I also have no doubt that the profit motive, or the
intense and selfish desire to create wealth, as affirmed by
libertarian economists like Milton Friedman, should not be the
highest or only value of free enterprise and business.
The material evolution to
ascending levels of supermaterial Godhood should be the highest value
of our culture and civilization. This doesn't necessarily suggest
theocracy, but the profit motive and the free enterprise system
should be grounded in the highest value of the material evolution of
life.
We are obviously a long
way from this value system, but populism and economic nationalism are at least reluctantly
beginning to wake business people up to the idea that the profit
motive is not the highest value to live by. Globalism has done more damage than good in the world. The sacralization of evolution, not wealth, may come in the future.
