Being as Thou, It, or as Object?

We are told to consider things as Thou, not It, not as Objects, but this theology has been abused. We try to stretch our “love” beyond natural limits, beyond our natural love for self, kin, extended kin, and ethnic community, because in reality love naturally decreases as we get further away from our biological-genetic connections, which is perfectly natural.

The theologians and philosophers have attempted to save the Thou-attitude toward All by misdefining God as beyond nature, beyond the world---they do not define Godhood as a supremely evolved supermaterial Object in the cosmos, as we do. Defining God as beyond nature and only spiritual sets up a false ontology that leads to trying to emulate a way of living and loving that is beyond our natures, and beyond the real world, even beyond real Godhood.

If we can first admit our natural connections and boundaries then we can have a better chance of finding realistic ways to try to get along and respect those who are not close to us, for example, by affirming ethnopluralism. When we try to demand that we love equally those close and those far away we demand actions that have never really worked. We can all evolve to Godhood but we first have to admit who we actually are, and what Godhood really is.
