Traditional versus modern heroism

The modern hero is individualistic to the point of being narcissistic, winning triumphs for himself alone or perhaps his immediate family. The traditional hero is an individual who wins an often solitary triumph on behalf of his whole group, not merely himself.

“ Modern man can only be rescued by new heroes who retrieve the power latent in ancient symbols,” said Robert Ellwood, writing about Carl Jung. This kind of heroism applies to the development of the Theoevolutionary Church, which takes traditional religious symbols and ideas and makes them modern and cosmic on behalf of the evolution of life to Godhood.
