The middle way as economic nationalism

A central trait of the Left seems to deny or avoid competition, and the Right seems to affirm it. This may be why the Left seems more idealistic, more romantic, and the Right seems more practical and realistic (some think of these as gender traits). Then the fringes of Left and Right carry it further to communism and fascism.

Ironically from this perspective, in seeking to block competition the Left seems reactionary, and the Right in affirming competition seems revolutionary.

We could say that it is the Middle that is the conservative position, the economic nationalist, who tries to modify competition without getting rid of it, accepting change and competition but modifying it to traditions.
