Transforming and enlarging conservatism and tradition
Theological materialism transforms and enlarges conservatism and tradition by unblocking the great spiritual blockade against evolving in the material world to real supermaterial Godhood.
Religious gurus experienced God as the blissful experience that came from ridding the body of all material desires, if they could manage the ascetic discipline successfully, which usually required a monastic life. But it was not God or Godhood that they found.
Basing the idea or experience of God on non-material spiritualism was like building a skyscraper not on sand, which after all is material, but on clouds of nothingness.
Theological materialism describes Godhood as evolved to in the material and supermaterial world over immense time.
Political philosophy, psychology, etc. can ground themselves in the evolution of life toward Godhood, which is best affirmed within the traditional and conservative ethos of human nature.
Human nature remains conservative and traditional in being kin-centered, gender defined, age-graded, heterosexual marriage-making, hierarchical, ethnocentric, even xenophobic, and religious-making, among other things, with group-selection as the primary unit of successful selection and evolution, followed by individual selection.
I affirm the principle of transforming and enlarging conservatism and tradition in religion and political philosophy rather than radically rejecting tradition.
This saves religion, but also brings science and politics into religion with a deeper realistic foundation.
